How to utilise your produce box: 5 essential tips

How to utilise your produce box: 5 essential tips

Since starting this business in March 2023 Sue and I have witnessed patterns emerging from our customers that have become integral to how we put your box together.   It was always our vision to have you eating fresh beautiful produce that YOU like, and not just what WE have chosen, but establishing that communication took time AND trust and we thank our hundreds of customers for seeing us through this time and allowing us to put in place procedures and checklists to facilitate that.

So if you’ve not dipped your toe in the water and ordered your box yet, or if your are new on board and looking for some tips, here are our top FIVE on how to get the most of of your box.

NUMBER ONE

Communication! Absolutely from the offset, tell us what you like, dont like and your household eating style. While we might be good at sourcing fresh produce for you and putting together hamper worthy fresh produce boxes, we haven’t mastered clairvoyant. The more we know the more we can shape your box to suit your household.

NUMBER TWO

Plan the week and get creative! Upon receiving your box, empty the contents on to the bench. Take a moment to seperate the items a) vegetables b) salad items c) fruits. Cast your eyes over each section and visually plan those meals.

Then (and here’s the big tip) cross plan. For example, can carrot form part of both veggies or salad? Could you cook them in a pot and grate them through a salad? Could baby spinach make a healthy green salad, or could you sauté it with some tomatoes and mushroom for breakfast? Get creative and use as much of the fresh produce as you can in a variety of different ways.

NUMBER THREE

Visit the recipe hub on the website! Seasonal eating brings us produce that we may not have eaten before, especially during the winter months when the fruit in our country is limited. But there is fruit, and there is a multitude of ways in which it can be used. Visit the recipe hub, or even create your own recipes and send them to us, but check out new and different ways to use your produce.

NUMBER FOUR

Soup, Juice, Casserole or Freeze! Have leftovers? Use one of the methods mentioned to use up those last bits of produce. Broccoli, beans etc can all be frozen and saved for another day (or when those items are scarce) place in zip lock bags and freeze. The same can be done with juicing fruits like bananas and berries. Failing that, blend your veggies into a beautiful soup and reap the benefits of extra nutrients through flu seasons etc.

NUMBER FIVE

Keep chatting to us! If you have too many of this, or too much of that. If you are trying a new recipe and need a different herb, let us know!
